I have some steel lugs to weld to the frame of my bike around 10mm thick, Am doubtful if my Tradesmig 191 will do the job, what do you think?. If I need a stick welder for this and ocassional heavy jobs which is the best for my needs, one that I can use if the mig isn't up to it?, Anyone a good on to offer me if I need it.

just prep the 10mm V it and off you go

as above just prep the lug and mig it up. if you are looking for an inverter though you can get a parweld xti160 for 188 quid delivered from weldequip but with a 190 amp mig you probably wont need it that often unless you plan on doing a lot of heavy work

dont forget to favour the 10mm as your frame wont be as thick and you dont want to blow through the frame

What are you fastening to your bike that needs a 10mm lug, could you remake the lug in 3mm or 5mm which would probably be kinder for the metal you are welding to ?

The base of the headstock, the lugs for the steering stops are missing.

What do you think of this model IFL 180 MA 240 volt inverter welder. is it overkill, too technical for the occassional bit of heavier welding?

For that application the mig will be fine, the steering lock only really has to provide a lock for normal circumstances...if someone is trying to steal the bike it doesn't matter what it's welded with, they will find an easy way to get past it

It's not a steering lock but the steering stop to limit the handlebar movement.

ah right, well even more so then, the mig will be fine as there is never any real force hitting the stops, they are never in use whilst riding unless you have really messed up and the bike is bouncing down the road, and when you are manouvering the bike around with your legs you arent going to be slamming the bars around from lock to lock

They are there to stop the bars from coming back as far as the tank on sports bikes. The ones on my bike are a piece of 5mm flat welded edge on so a piece on the bottom yoke hits the narrow face.
