Haha! Know that I have your attention
Ive got something a little 'iffy' to show you knowledgable gents.
Are you sitting comfortable?? Then I'll begin.....
I went down the Engine Room at a quarter to midnight, as per usual, to relive the Chief Engineer.
"No 1 unit Starboard Main Engine is leaking fuel, please change the injector" says he.
" No worries" says I. So off I trundle to have a looksee. Sure enough there is a vertiable flood of diesel flowing down the block. I stop the engine, remove the rocker cover and proceded to remove the offending injector.
This is what I found.......(the injector is next to a normal claw hammer for scale) I was gobsmacked, truely! Weve only just come out of dry-dock!!!
These injectors 'lift' at 300 bar and each one feeds a 14.7ltr cylinder at 825rpm!!!!! So thats a fair bit of diesel under a fair bit of pressure.



Needless to say its was the shocking weld that was peeing fuel everywhere!
And finally one of the engine itself. No 1 unit is next to the turbocharger.
It is a Nohab Polar SF16RS. Inline 6 cyl, 250mm bore X 300mm stroke (thats 88.1 ltrs-ish), 4 stroke turbo-diesel. Producing 1150bhp @ 825 rpm with 0.8bar boost.
