OK now I have your attention
I have looked at the posts on this subject and they are good modifications BUT some are totally DANGEROUS, transformers with no enclosures, single insulated wires pushed through drilled out holes, rectifiers mounted on the exterior of a panel, no insulation to be found, is anyone fusing the transformers, the transformers are also mounted on the exterior of the machines, as I call anything that is easily accessible as external,
What Ifs:
wire loops off roll and touches any live part of the mod
hands touching live parts
replacing spool and touching live parts
your kids touching live parts
your neighbors kids touching live parts
Etc Etc Etc
Your neighbor could end up owning your house after suing you, let alone how you are going to feel for the rest of your life!

Hopefully it will only be you that fries

It is totally illegal to install these parts and wire them the way that you guys have.
And the guys that are telling you how to do it, well look forward to a long rest in some lockup somewhere.

You will have to do your mods in a much safer manner, and do it NOW or disconnect it IMMEDIATELY.

I really cant believe that people with supposed intelligence could do things like this, let alone show other people how to do it !!!!!!!!!!!

Well said. I came accross a post on here somewhere showing a home made heating system using a gas bottle converted to woodburner - not a problem - but a vessel had been put inside to create a water heating system with a radiator. Whilst a nice idea (although couldn't see the safety valves on it I'm not ctitizising that installation, it looked well installed), people were talking about copying it and the full system wasn't on view in the photo so they would miss out essential valves.

It is effectively an unvented hot water system, if the expansion tank fails (and eventually they do) you are at the mercy of the secondary pressure release valve etc. If these are not fitted (and diy wouldn't have a clue) the system explodes under pressure. NICE

It is also illegal to install an unvented system without having an unvented hot water ticket (plumbing/heating qualification).

Now don't get me wrong I'm as P****d off with foced qualifications for their own sake, jobs worths, official crap, cameras everywhere etc as everyone else. It's also great that people are saving money and creating things but for gods sake, putting the legalities aside if your making/modifying anything with gas, electric, hot water/steam etc either ask advice and do it properly or pay and have it done.

It's not just you that might be standing next to it / touching it when it decides to bite.

Right, rant over, we've had the pikeys round here yesterday so had to block everything in last night. so I'm off to wire the workshop door lock to the mains. Do I need to put an inline fuse on that? advice please.....

just use a big electric cattle fence unit they work very well for connection of door handles to the mains. Don't forget the marigolds so you can unhook it!

By the way polarity does matter with AC circuits as if someone wires say an extension lead with the active to the neutral pin, what do you think will happen if there is a fault!

As far as safe you would have to mount all components enclosed and fused, no wires through drilled out panels etc etc

Have to agree on this one, once took us weeks to trace an intermittant fault due to live and neutral being transposed at the input, turned out to be the cable was clamped too tightly to the chassis and had virtually cut through the live (or was it neutral?)

Long time ago, pre Lloyds TSB, pre TSB, in fact I think it was The Jersey Savings Bank! (I'm not that old honest, I'm sure it's a story my Grandad told me )

Actually I have had older Migs where the wire is live all the time, no contactor, but when the ac is changed to the correct polarity the wire is no longer live until the machine is triggered, from memory they were CEM branded
