DAB radio

Flicked the switch to turn mine on this morning and nothing,no lights,sound sod all just getting a low humming noise from the speakers,thought power supply so used a spare i had, still nowt but humming,no reset button,cant even find any screws to look inside,seems like a complete sealed unit.
Is this one of those things thats gonna cost more to repair than replace?
Damn thing is only 3 yrs old and i need my sounds in the man cave
Ideas anyone?

Most likely bin fodder I'm afraid. Might be worth a check on the transformer plug but its most likely something inside

As it's a Bush I'm with MK. Not a built to last manufacturer.

If you can get into it then you may well find it's a cap on the power rail that has gone.

i dont think any of the DAB radios are built to last. we have a large pile of any make you like at work that people have asked the electronics engineers to look at. My advice get as cheep as you can my argos catalog return is still going strong after 5 years

Roberts or Grundig all the way for me. I'd like an internet radio for the shed, i have a wifi network thing so it should work, you can listen to stations from all over the world on one. The tunein radio app is great on the iphone or ipad (dunno if its on android).

Robert would. Be much better with smoothing cap in power supply (apparently according to senior electronics bloke at work)

Same again the better Roberts do mines one of the first Gemini 25 when DAB first came out approx. 10 yrs ago maybe more, used daily.
Picks up more stations than any other as well.

I thought they were changing the channel spacing on DAB to fit more channels in. If the set cannot be upgraded it will stop working at some point. Only DAB+ sets will work

Roberts maybe, although mine has very poor software. The power button isn't even debounced!

Grundig would be a disappointment now. We all know it as a quality brand, but they went out of business a few years ago. It is now a "disguising" brand to hide low quality units from the Bush/Alba factory.

Check out the roberts prices first stalwart, you might get sticker shock as the yanks say. I bought my mother a lovely non-dab roberts radio a few years back for christmas, lovely wooden case and nice leather trim, real quality, but a hefty price tag too.
Sorry to hear about grundig going down the pan, i bought myself a grundig about 15 years ago and it was lovely. Had it perched on top of a wardrobe while decorating a room, went for a brew and let the wimmen have a look at the progress in painting, when i came back the radio was still on top of the wardrobe but smashed to bits, amazingly it had jumped to its death and then elevated itself back to the top of the wardrobe ! Even more amazingly the wimmens had seen nothing, boy was i p****d off .

I buy reconditioned CD players and they last about 2 years for about twenty quid.

There is a lot to be said for that chunkolini. DJ's as a breed are dreadful usually, some deserve shooting.

Did all the cd stuff ages ago,save that for driving,got bored with knowing what tunes coming next,i like my talksport ,i like uptodate news ie 5live,i also like pop master on radio2(yer sorry guys) and shout at jeremy vine on how much of a prat he is and some of the muppets that call inthen over to gold for some old stuff,and loads more channels to choose from,theres a big list on DAB

i'm new here but i have a roberts dab internet jobbie, a pure evoke dab and nowts went wrong with them yet and they are on all day. best you get an old roberts analogue one and you wont go far wrong and it sounds better too. cheap on fleabay.

Hear hear. I even 'lost' the aerial from the works' van so no passengers can listen to Radio cr@pping 1

I still have the Marantz 273CD I bought new in 1987... it goes well with the 1975 Armstrong 625 tuner/amp, 1990-ish Rega Planar 3 turntable, TEAC cassette deck and 1975 B&W loudspeakers

I had a Wharfdale DAB given to me not working checked it out found it was Chinese cap plaque
didnt expect it on a wharfdale changed every cap and it has worked perfectly since.

I really didnt want this to go to a debate on what we all like or not like to listen to,each to their own i say,just wanted to know if my little black box of noise can be fixed,now i know its not worth it,then a better replacement needs to be required, Roberts seems favorite to me.
