I think so, but there seems to be more to it and needs the valves replacing too. Most of the write ups jump in amd just do the mod but dont exactly explain the fault and quite what the mod does.Is this the earth wire mod?
You know you are a D2 owner when you don't even slow down or look at the dash when it makes the fault bong noise
Yes, that is correct. The fault is caused by corrosion, by doing the wiring mod you simply create a new earth to replace the corroded one. You may find the old unit is still perfectly serviceable, as ours was (and still is). Thanks for that.
So am I right in thinking that the process is to remove the existing switch pack, test it with a multimeter and if good perform the wiring mod on that. If bad, replace it with a new unit with the wiring mod?
Does the fault usually occur because of a wiring fault inside the modulator then? Oh, and is the the right fault to solve this way? Shuttle Valve Switch Failure? Testing with Hawkeye, the shuttle valves fail the test. The three amigos are intermittent currently. Stayed off for several hundred miles and then back on after a couple of miles yesterday.
Thats excellent. Thanks! Here is a very good write up on the root casue of the issue, it really bugs me when I see the bodged wiring people do on D2 and then tell how they've made it better. This ABS module is used in quite a few vehicles and issue is caused by dry joints on a PCB. It really doesn't take that much longer to do the job properly instead of bypassing the wiring.
I thought that the common issue was that the internal connector (rather than the PCB to which its attached) corroded and resulted in an intermittent connection. Cleaning connectors can be a bit iffy and so most just remove the connector from the equation by providing a wire connection from the switches to the loom itself. I guess you could replace the connector entirely but its quite an involved fix. Here is a very good write up on the root casue of the issue, it really bugs me when I see the bodged wiring people do on D2 and then tell how they've made it better. This ABS module is used in quite a few vehicles and issue is caused by dry joints on a PCB. Nice one fingers crossedWell. It took me 4-5 months to get to it. But wiring mod now done. There was nothing wrong with the switch pack.
With the Febi/Bilstein bushes (bearings really) fitted to the watts linkage, I think we can safely go for the MOT.
