D pro pillar drill opinions

£86 for a 5 speed pillar drill. Lidl have one for £129 makes this look cheap.......

Nope, but had something similar once. That’s not heavy duty. You could pick it up with one hand. Likely to have a wobbly quill, runout on the spindle etc, etc. Probably ok for making holes in thin stuff if accuracy isn’t too critical.
Might be worth holding out for a decent second hand drill if you can. I bought a new “engineers” drill from Axminster years ago to replace a Lidl/Aldi drill similar to the d pro and was really disappointed with it. I had to send it back. A week or two later I picked up a barely used Startrite mercury for £100 from a local school. It’s not the best drill for metalwork due to the speed range but it suits me just fine.

Completely generic bench drill, A complete waste of £86 IMO.

Sure it will drill holes but it will have a lot of runout, also stall constantly and the tables flex like mad.

Been looking for a used one and missed out on too, they were advertised too cheap under £50 but alternative is freehand........

A cheap drill press is better than no drill press but if your not in a desperate rush to get hold of one keep an eye out in local classifieds/gumtree/eBay etc for a decent old one - much sturdier/accurate and will last several lifetimes. Old British are as solid as they come but even more recent secondhand (but well made) imported stuff will be better than “new and cheap”. Stuff like Warco etc are Far East in origin but are at least pretty sturdy.
