cws bestmig 160, or GYS smartmig 162?

Had a look through a load of similar posts on here and seen lots of recommendations for each of these machines. Theres next to nothing between them price wise - £380 for either - so if it was your cash, which would you buy?

Is there anything featured on the two machines that sets them apart from one another that Im missing?

CWS is a invertor MIG, GYS is a transformer MIG.

Excuse the stupidity, but weight aside, what benefit is an invertor over transformer?

You can do stick and scratch TIG as well as MIG

Transformer set is more simple inside, less electronics, so potentially easier fix if it goes wrong.

My vote goes for the GYS, outstanding machine for the money. Made in France, very easy to use panel & holds its resale value quite well.

I've just bought a cws best mig and can't fault it...easy to set up, easy to use, good smooth arc with mig and stick

Thanks all for the advice. Had a try of the GYS, lovely wee machine, unbelievably superior to the SIP I had.. but I was offered a Miller Migmatic 175 at almost the same price, and thats just a beast: genuine Binzel torch, trolley comes with it, gas or gasless, and more grunt than Id ever need. Plus a 3 year warranty, I couldnt say no really!

I had previously been using disposable gas bottles (shame on me), so I needed everything. Got the Miller, Binzel torch, gas pipe, earth lead, 5kg of wire, spare shrouds and tips, bottle and gas, plus regulator for £600. A bit over my estimated original outlay for the cws or Gys, but I hadnt factored gas/reg etc into that equation.

was that £600 + VAT or inc? If £600 inc VAT you got yourself a flippin' bargain mate.

600 inc VAT. Theres a good chance its more than Ill ever need, but Ive learned my lesson with my guitars and guitar amps that buying cheap means youll prob want to upgrade at some point anyway!

Fair enough, they've more than looked after you there then. They're outstanding machines & can take a beating (i've had one dropped from a ridiculous distance and its still working, in a mate of mines car garage now)
