Laminated should hold together in the event of an accident, do you mean toughened?

no laminated the whole screen cracked and caved in followed by the deer that hit it bonnet caved in windscreen bust and the roof was crumpled I got cut on the nose and cheeks it came that far in .we were slowing down from about 70 mph and roughly it hit us at about 35mph

who knows sometimes you can throw bricks at toughened glass and they bounce off. its only when a sharp hard object hits it it will let go. all the scrotes round our way use broken spark plugs to bust the bus stop windows or an automatic centerpunch

My betting would be that you would have had the deer in your mush had it not been laminated, I’ve seen some of the testing done at pilkington automotive in Birmingham and I’d have a laminated windscreen over toughened glass every day of the week.

Dad did it once when he "borrowed" a side window from the bus garage, nice sharp glass cutter and bang 100s of glass squares, it's supposed to do that, never heard of anyone cutting toughened glass succesfully

wonder if you can get the glass annealed before cutting it.....of course that may cost more than the window is worth, but its an option and then the glass can be tempered again afterwards if required.

have a friend down in Ringwood who sent me photos of a deer crash about 15\20 mph he said the lady driving found a dears bum through the screen he said her fur coat was never the same "that was toughened" she went to hospital for the glass to be removed from her eyes, don't know where the coat went

A favourite on french/fully glazed doors, then just walk right in and take what you want. No danger of cutting themselves either.

i tried it for the wood stove gave up after scoring a few times and it wouldnt give so back on stove it went as it was an oven glass

make the frame 2 1/2 bigger to suit the standard glass size so you don't have to cut it?

I bought a Carolina style door 20 odd years ago. One of the pieces of glass was too large for the opening. Since the pieces are fitted with beads I didn't want to start carving wood. Bright idea, grind it down. I used an angle grinder and water. It worked well so I made myself a cup of tea and sat down for to enjoy it. There was a loud bang from the kitchen about 15 minutes later and I went in there to find tiny fragments of glass everywhere.
The toughening process apparently causes a lot of internal stress which is relieved once stress raisers are introduced.

I now have a replcement set of glass, minus one that is fitted in the door.

Toughened glass is better suited for car doors as laminated often cracks when the door is slammed.
