And don't forget to take either a battery grinder with slitting disc - or a hacksaw! You're well served by steel stockholders down there (just had a Google, I'm envious) but flat bar may come in anything up to 7.6m in length.

About a mile down the road from me.

I usually end up plasma cutting or disc cutting thin stuff just for speed.

As previously said you can get pretty much laser quality straight cuts with a slitting disc - just takes a bit of patience and practice. You can end up with a very straight flat ground edge - even better than the kerf angle you’d get from cnc plasma cutting or distortion from punching.

I donated £5 to the tea fund at a local fab shop and came home with many kilogrammes of 1.2 mm sheet neatly guillotined into identical small rectangles.

I agree, a trip to a fab shop has got to be the best option. Most of them will let you loose in the scrap bin if you ask nicely.
