cutting brass

Need to cut a fair few bits of brass bar, 1" thick and need to make approximately 72 cuts. Really don't like the idea of using a hacksaw.

Can I use a steel cutting disc? Or will it clog like Ali does

It'll clog, jigsaw and wd might work better. I've used my recip saw before. Also heard people using a tct or segmented diamond disk..?

Use the ultra thin cutting disks they'll cut it no problem & won't clog up like alloys, that's if you've not got a bandsaw.

I have a box full of 1mm discs

Have a rage evo mitre saw too but the bits aren't big enough to clamp down properly in it

I have not ever tried this, but a mate of of mine used to to use a stone cutting disc to cut aluminium, reckoned it didn't load up and worked great. Don't know about cutting brass, Check out all safety aspects if you were to try a test cut,

think I will give it a go, I have a face shield, thick overalls mig gauntlets etc so little risk of injury if a disc breaks up, and will be cutting it in the shed so no one else will get hurt either

You got a plasma cutter? I cut brass with mine clean and fast.

well the baby is asleep at the moment, but when he wakes up I am on brass cutting duty so will let you know how it goes

it will go verry well if u are using 1mm slitting disks as another member said in his post

Why ?
does he hold the brass while you cut it??

no but his room looks out over the garden and don't really want to wake him with the grinder lol

Use the grinder Man ! Don't pamper the munchkin or you'll make a rod for your own back from now on . All three of my kids could sleep through anything noisy that I did , as I never stopped doing things to the home or farm just for them to sleep .

well, first 30 cuts done, another 48 left. thought it was only 72 but no, 78 in total. disc looks fine, its getting about 30 seconds between each cut while I put a new piece in the vice and position it. no clogging, not a single shattered disc but do seem to be going through a few of them.
