Current price of steel?

Finally got some money together to sort out at least the frame for my welding table and possibly the top depending on the price.

Found 1 online place for 30mm x 2.5mm shs for £9 for 3 meters and £7 for 25mm x 2.5mm shs, but I am assuming that that is still more than what I would pay locally.

I have found a couple of fabricators which I know at least one of which will deal with the public. As I am not rich, I am looking not to be robbed when I go and buy the steel.
Anyone got a rough guesstimate on the current prices for box section?
25mm, 30mm, and 40mm shs are what I am looking at, at the moment.

why dont you call a steel stockist and get a price then you can compare with the prices you have then you will know, have you tried scrap yard for steel ?

For small orders of steel you could try Brindleys, I even use them myself sometimes, they cut standard lengths into 2 so box sections come at 3.8m, and flats, squares at 3m, all delivered in a couple of days by courier.

Slightly better than the £17 for 2m of 25mm x 1.5mm that I saw B&Q were selling it for.

Hi Gordon,

Do you get your metal supplies from that place near Barrett's garden centre along Yarm Rd? I'm just trying to source some prices of sheet metal from local suppliers. There doesn't seem to be a lot of Companys in this area that has an informative website.

P.S. could not find the invoice but prices I quoted are from memory but are within a Quid or so.

PPS. if you want to pick up the steel they will cut. so try and figure what lengths you need
(plus a bit for final adjustment) got mine burned into lengths but they will use the band saw for a small charge,

there verry helpfull but dont go on teabreak or dinnertime .otherwise they just ignore u

Not sure where in East Sussex you are but if you can get to Pease Pottage then give Crawley Metal Supplies a try. They're happy to deal with joe public/ cash sales and their prices are pretty competitive

If you go when it's quiet they've even cut it into manageable lengths for me too
