Curdling celle with fast thinners

Went to the local paint suppliers today for a bit of celle to blow over a 5t excavator, when I got home I noticed that they gave me "fast" thinners.

When I mixed the paint initially it looked as if it had curdled? Then with a bit more mixing it thinned out as it should and the paint went onto the excavator well.


Im no painter, im ok on a bit of rough old plant machinery but you wouldnt want to let me loose on your car. I'm self taught and dont know a great deal about paint so My question is..... Why does it curdle with fast thinners and not with standard thinners.

Was the fast thinners for 2k? Might explain it.

Just got the thinners can out of the bin, it says fast synthetic. Maybe that's why it went funny initially with the celle?

yeah synthetic thinners is differant stuff ...shouldnt have sold it to you

I see, I will tell her her mistake when I go in next time. Will this cause any problems with the celle paint that has been applied using the synthetic thinners?

you sure they gave you cellulose not many people stock it now
as it was for plant it may have been synthetic
as for the curdling may have needed more stirring or was too cold

I asked for celle. The paint went on ok but I was asking about the curdling out of curiosity. Here's a pic of the paint

did it smell like what youve used before ? syn has a very differant smell and the overspray will feel sticky

The paint looks fine, it went on well and dried hard, although by the time it's been back out on site for a month you will never know its had all new pins bushes and a coat of paint!

It smelled like celle, and the overspray was dry like normal.

It's back out on hire tommorow so we will see how the paint stands up to the rain,dust and blind machine drivers!
