What you are looking for is not brushing its whats we call 'graining' and there is a difference between the two. What you show in your images can not be achieved by hand very easily at all due to lack of control. Ally is bad for this kind of finish and the softer the material the worse it is. This coarse finish you show is achieved mechanically on what effective is a vertical finisher with a powered and fed table. This allows full control and effectively each piece of grit comes into minimal contact and literally scores the material multiple times to allow that coarse looking uniform finish. It's is a very subtle and gentle contact and this needs control that humans do not have.
The other thing to consider is you are trying to copy someone elses finish
These machines take various forms so a bit of research will reveal all to you. These are around in the Uk and i can put you in contact with someone who i use for the exact process. I don't have the info to hand unfortunately.
I have worked heavily in the AV industry so i have been through the process you are trying to go through. You will end up with money spent, time wasted and not a lot achieved. My advice is use your time more wisely and make parts you are good at and making money at. Leave the stuff others are good at to them, you will be a lot better off that way. For a 100 quid or so for the graining it's money well spent at half the price.
Hey, if you look at the photos, i can clearly make a clean cut - its just more effort
Wise words as ever Scott. (Trust you’re keeping well)
