its the same in most areas
single or double means single or 2 storey building in our area they ask/demand that you over strengthen everything and also have really deep foundations due to people wanting to build extensions then build even higher
ive been stood inside of deep foundations digging it out by hand foundations was 5ft deep and i hadnt even hit the clay bed as thats what the inspector wanted to see, further down road the foudations was only 300 deep below ground level and used lintels over the drain area
Bro in law had to get in specialists with a long arm excavator on tracks to dig four metre foundations ( 2003) and paid £ 9 K to fill them with concrete as they were being excavated , with BCO on site some 15 yrs ago for his dormer bungalow .
His place is on live silt out in the Cambridge shire fens . Like has been said the foundations are deep enough & big enough to float a two story upwards extension .. .It seems this bigger foundations for the future approach is now being /has been taken up in Carmarthen South Wales too .
