Tok junior to a bike race held in Porlock with a bunch of my mates. We went on the motorbike so I was official photographer, Dan I think messed it up beautifully for me.
What the hell was going on? why do there seem to be stones flying out of his head?
Uninjured apart from a few grazes.



To actually catch the moment when the bike attacks him, lucky.

This is Klunker racing, a reaction the corporate whoredom of mainstream cycling, shiny geegaws, expensive tosh and all that stuff.
Klunketeering is about riding crap bikes that are cost free, and racing the hell out of them, drinking lots and having a laugh with your mates. childish? yes, stupid? yes. But the racing is still competitive for some of us. Others will walk all the way up and down the hill with their bikes, some are happy to survive, but some people have to win win win.

Why brave?
Over many years of cycling, I've had a few cables break on the 'sporty' models, but never had a problem with the brakes on the 'non-flybywire' roadster.

4 speed Sturmey Archer, very comfy Brookes seat and solid bars instead of tubing judging by the weight of the thing, but a very stable platform for directing a warning boot into the flank of white van man's conveyance if he made the mistake of cutting me up...

Rodpull brakes?
I had an ancient trike with them, did the builders laugh as I slowly mounted the pavement and demolished the wheelie bins? It had been raining, the bike weighed about a ton, and just would not stop.
I also had a 1930's Rudge velocipede with them, another potential killer, very hilly around here.

But those old heaps are indestructible.

i buy bikes every so often at auction, you can get decent old bikes for pennies, mine was £2 with basket/carrier/working lights etc

an old bike is much nicer to ride as the weight gives you more momentum and the gyroscopic effect of heavier wheels mean that once you are going you can plod along easily

i find myself for ever changing gear on a mountain bike as they are'nt as good for keeping a steady pace
