Craft mat

I bought one of the craft cutting mats so I could have a wipe clean surface If needed on the bench. An unexpected use I found was to set things up on it that you couldn’t get a square on easily. I know you can’t weld on it, or else it would be even more use! Only a few quid off eBay. I’ve put a photo on here in case you don’t know what I mean. It’s an obvious use really, just didn’t get it for that. I should have blanked out the Amtech bit, I am ashamed to own anything from them

Don't be ashamed of the Amtech name, these cutting mats are probably made by the same manufacturer and just rebadged. I've got several in different sizes and find them quite useful. The A4 size sits on my computer desk to protect the wood finish under the microscope illuminators, and the A5 is handy as a small kitchen cutting board.

If you use them when cutting, e.g. with a scalpel, they're supposed to be 'self healing' - they are, to an extent. I've had mine for decades and it's still in use.

Yeah, and they're cheap as chips too. I think I paid £1.50 for the small one, £1.99 for the A4 size and $6.00 for the large one that sits on top of the roll cab.

We have a couple in my wife's craft room and they have had some serious abuse over the years and still get good use out of them.
