courier for a compressor (Dorchester to Scarborough)

I'm interested in a compressor for sale in the Dorchester area, problem is i live in Scarborough, and really can't justify the trip there and back in my car.

Anyone know of a courier that can transport a compressor for a reasonable price,
It's a private sale, so the seller won't have a pallet to put it on, it's got 4 wheels on it... but i don't think a courier would be happy unless it's boxed up?

We could probably get our local depot to drop a pallet off for a small extra charge.
What is the length on this?
The wheels would need to be chocked and the compressor strapped.

Shipping sizes from the site that sells them new claim '1300mm long, 800mm tall, 400mm wide, 80 kilo's weight.

it's got 4 wheels that go on 'stub axles'... i.e. a bar, and are held on with split pins, so the wheels would come off easily,

It's one of those ones with those oilless 'silent' compressors, with those double ended motor pump units in a row across the top.

yeah, it's a juggling act to what the compressor would be worth to me and how much it costs to get it here,

The one i'm looking at costs about €1000 new, plus about €60 shipping from Germany (with the hassle i'm having with customs right now i don''t want to order from europe again (claiming a €19 grinding mask is valued at £100, and charging me ~£27 vat and import duty on it!)

This compressor would be a kind of temporary solution, i really want a 1960's 2 stage type slow running cast iron barrel / piston compressor,
but i want to buy a project one and 'restore' it, and if i do that now i'll never get any of my other projects done, my tig cart is still a pile of cut bits of metal due to working on the trailer the past week (damn ADHD)

So this compressor is a way to get a much quieter one that i can use without annoying neighbours, but i could buy a new one with half the number of compressor units for ~£300.

We can do it easily. Sadly 1.3m long it becomes 2 pallet spaces. Will see what we can do.

dang... anyone able to weld a compressor back together if it's been cut it in half

What if it was 1.3 meters tall instead of wide ?

It's one of those stahlwerk st-1510 compressors, 150 litre tank and 4 x double ended 'silent' motor pump units that start up in a sequence to spread the (5.56 Kw) load the on single phase supply,
Seller says 2 of the 4 motors are working, the others need new 'starters' i.e. start capacitors, and there's some 'spare' pump units with it.

But it would mean buying sight unseen, and risking that i'll end up with a 150 litre thin steel tank and a load of dead pump units.


I am also looking at an 1973 belt driven piston compressor, but i need to find out how much the motor pulls, it looks to be a big old motor, it is single phase, but that one will be a constant full load, where as the modern multi motor compressor i could run just one pump when i just need a little bit of air, and all 4 if i needed it all... but i'm going OT now (as usual)

Tall is fine - up to 2m or so. That is why bathroom companies stand baths upright on a pallet

I think it will fit really neatly on a standard pallet if it goes diagonally? I'd be wary of anything that was arriving with half the motors missing and lot of supposedly good spares. If it was that easy they'd fix it and sell it fully working.

yes i am wondering about that compressor, been reduced to almost half the price they wanted for it a week ago when they listed it.

And the 'easy fix' thing is always a red flag, if it really was an easy fix, why not do it themselves and have a working compressor again, or sell for a lot more fully working,
a couple of motor start capacitors for 1500 watt motors are cheap i imagine,

It's got a sequencer module to turn the individual compressor units on and off, and i suspect it might be that which is the problem,

I'm also waiting for info on a 1970's Ingersoll Rand compressor, the only worry is the size of the single phase motor on it, as i only have 2.5 mm armoured cable feeding the workshop.

Corner to corner should fit especially as I'd guess the ends are slightly domed

Can you find out why the spare parts?

Get a phone number and ring-a lot harder for them to spin a lie if you ask them a few quickfire questions rather than have time to think of a reply to a message

Try Shiply, can be surprisingly cheap if it's on well trodden routes (i.e near motorways).
