I got these 2 Parkinson vices for £50, the smaller 37 is going in my new shed replacing a too small stanley, the bigger No8 will be outside use
They both work well and are generally good nick but very grotty - anyhoo opting not to paint, they won't be loved but want them rust resistant, bit of an experiment for me at least.
Thinking likely several coats of what have you over the years with rust poking through and the internal filth build up, toyed with getting the sand blaster out but took them to @stuvy blaster contact - no brainer for the peanuts and he does a real thorough job with quick turnaround - and its a nice drive
Nicely bare but flash rusting pretty quick and with that dull sand blast finish, wire wheeled and airlined, too shiney needs protection.
Oiled up with graphite, turpentine & beeswax mix - got the recipe from @MattF and served me well on lots of stuff, goes a long way too.
I like the grey metal finish and less bother than paint. Does expose the casting nasties which I guess Parkinsons filled, but not bothered about it
Will do the No8 tomorrow then bolt them up.
