Council policy process

I know the net is wide here so I thought I'd ask as I can't find an answer online .

Maybe someone here can answer it .

Hyper-thetically I want to Seperate glass from cans and put in a see through bin .

Assume the report gets passed up until township committee stage where the 4 constituent townships agree .

Is it then council policy or is there another stage .

If your wondering why I don't ask a councillor .... I'd like the answer before I ask the question . As I have two coucilllors back out this week .

I suspect you will find most regions differ a fair bit, ours you can put glass and cans together or in separate containers as long as the containers are safe for the workers to lift for the emptying into the refuse wagon.

You can't put them into bags or a container with a fixed lid that requires removal or opening, the supplied boxes can have an approved and bought from the council elasticated waterproof cover that the worker removes and places back into the box when empty...it then blows away and you have to search the streets for it

Our recycling bins have a separate lift out compartment for glass in the top of the bin, all other recycling going in the main bin.

I can't see recycling ever being a success until there is uniformity across the country. We can't put fast food trays in the recycle bin even though they have the recycle symbol molded into them. The reason - they are black and our council's contractor's sorting equipment can't detect them.

Our councils policy is put all recyclables in 1 bin, glass, metal tins, cardboard, paper, polythene and plastic. This then has to go for sorting, it must be costing a fortune, never mind the transport costs.

Its got to happen soon surely, ours glass in one box, food waste in another, then garden wast in a separate bin, a pink sack for plastic and cardboard, the rest goes in a black sack. Its a different system/policy between individual councils not even a consistent plan for a hole county.

Hi, I think you are all missing the point of the question.

He is asking the process of how a particular policy is set regardless of subject matter.

Having said that I can't help with the answer, sorry, but I also would like to know for curiosity sake.

From my limited experience of councils again it appears to vary widely between locations.
From what i have seen small very localised parish councils seem the most effective and managed systems to suit the locality.
Our borough council is far less efficient, implementing policies that suit one area but are unpractical for the rest of the borough.

Jesus that's ridiculous! How much space do all those bins take up? And how do you remember which goes out on which day? I personally would not like a mini recycling plant round the back of my house. Just think of all the other stuff I could store there instead!

We keep the big yellow box for glass in the front garden, then the Green food waste bin in the drive opposite the back door with the pink sacks as they fill up. the black bags live in bins in the back garden. Brown wheelie bin for garden waste lives in the garden also.
Garden waste and food waste get collected every week.
Black bags of general waste alternate every other week when the pink bags and yellow glass boxes are emptied.

Glass, plastic, cans and cardboard all go in the bottom of our burgundy bin. Magazines and quality paper goes in a caddy in the top. Garden and food waste go in a green bin and general waste goes in a black bin. These are all wheelie bins and do take up a fair bit of space. Pain in the bum neighbour leaves hers in the shared access and I have to move them when I want to get trailer out.

I live probably less than 8 miles from Chris (probably the neighbouring council) and have three wheely bins - green waste, general waste and recyclebles. Simple and clean!

And they wonder why people dont recycle.
We have only just entered the modern world with the garden waste Wheelie Bin, until a few weeks back we had green sacks, anything other than grass cutting ripped through the bag.
But if you filled them full of grass cuttings they wouldn't take the weight and would burst open, thats if they didn't get wet and dissolve at the base (some sort of compostable starch based bag).

I have read that link before (thanks for caring to share it ) , it still doesn't give guidance to to the question I've asked , just says and I'm paraphrasing , that the council is devoted into townships , nothing about how policy is formed / implemented

and recycling policy is just a figment , it could be bin wagons cost 1 pound less to spray in pink with yellow dots .....

Our council got rid of green waste and now charge £1 a bag... The fly tipping has got worse Unsupprisingly.

I don't dont give a flying fig over recycling policy , it was an issue to provide an example is all

(we have 4 bins here , 1 cardboard , 1 garden , a non recyclable bin and one for tins and bottles )

All councils have to operate to the same basic standard re-policy (implementation is a diff argument)

I need to know the next step if a council report is approved .

Sorry but I've got to drag the thread back online , and not how *****the recycling is in the country !

What local government do you have, as far as i am aware there is no one rule fits all arrangement, it depends on where you are.

I so very much preferred the system we had in France.

Every couple of hundred metres or so was a 'biffa' type bin for general waste, just put your bags in there.

Down the road was a recycling point - compartments for glass, all plastics and paper/cardboard products.

Never had to remember to put bins out on a certain day, no collection of wheelie bins cluttering around the house/driveway, never any bother.

This was in a hamlet of like 30 or so properties, and it scaled easily to the local towns etc.


It'd never work here though, people seem too protective of their rubbish to put it in the same bin as somebody else...

Wouldn't work here.
The bins would be full of builders rubbish from the itinerant road menders
