I think I have this one coming off ebay (bit of haggling going on) - luckily the guy has some branch office in our town, and can bring it down, so no postage to pay.
Cheaper than the cheap new ones and I am sure will do for me for my limited projects. Thanks for advice all .

Remember there is a guy ( on eBay ?) who machines up identical new jaws . so a well used vice needing new jaws could well be a fantastic bargain .in the midlands ,,, Id just look on Gumtree and find something half decent and old , but local .
The tenner you spend in fuel is the tenner you will save in postage , plus you get a day out and a bit f an explore too.
My York is around 40 years old (bought new) and still in perfect conditionPeople tend to want Record, but I feel Parkinson, Fortis, Woden and a few other old makes are also just as good, I also have a York vice made in the Chec republic which ahs given excellent service
I did a couple of days back but didn't get anything back. I'm not in a big rush - I can wait to get this one above off ebay seller . I am just negotiation with him about the exact price. But the fact he's willing to get it to my home town to be collected without cost is worth a few quid to me in time and petrolTry a wanted advert on this forumSomebody might have a good surplus vice they no longer need. I gave away the one I no longer needed as too big !

That should clean up nice.UPDATE - I got this one off eBay in the end. Very pleased with it. Not even bolted down yet and has been put to use.
Really enjoying the 'anvil' space on the back.
It's a 6" Olympia, plenty big enough for the things I'll be doing

Very kind offer - only just saw this.I have a big old vice I bought when we lived in the Philippines. Oddly enough it was hand made, cut and welded from various sizes of steel, and ground to shape, probably by a guy squatting on the ground without so much as goggles or hearing protection. It's obviously not the same quality as a Record vice would be, but the jaws are 6" wide, to give an idea of scale.
I'm in the west midlands, near j14 M6, yours for free if you can collect. Or anybody else who can use it, it's just taking up space here.
