Cost to have built work bench delivered to someone?

So I want to branch out with the work benches I am making and selling, and be able to deliver them nationally. I have seen other people on ebay and FB marketplace selling big items like benches, milling machines etc. saying they can have them delivered for 70 pounds or thereabouts. What services have you guys used to have stuff delivered to a customer for large items ( that would need to be put on a wagon or in a big van). Or what services do people use to deliver big items to your workshop? Thanks.

I see these £70 delivery costs which are probably for a pallet but not national, I would be not be able to send a pallet for under £100, probably £120 would be approx the cheapest from the highlands.

I used to work for palletways in the offices and these cheap haulage prices are from people that ship a lot of stuff quite frequently, so they get savings on coat compared to people that only send 1 or 2 a month...

As mentioned, pallet shipping varies depending on the size, weight and destination.
Also increases if you need collection or decreases if you can drop it off at a local depot.

Other options are man-in-van services from places like Shipley but collection/delivery times can be erratic.

Or deliver them yourself.
If you are selling on facebook/forums and have enough demand you could give set delivery dates for areas of the country and do a load at a time.

Just watch out if you are using ebay or taking PayPal payments as self delivery won't have any tracking/proof of delivery if a claim is raised.
Same issue with van-man although a few of them have online tracking now

Advice I've seen in the past is to flip the table upside down (for stability) and strap it to a pallet - then ring fizzy

A workbench will be a bulky heavy item so consider that you & the customer who receives it will need a way to safely flip the table over without damaging the legs or the top.

I think for pallet shipping it has to fit on a standard euro pallet which is 1200x800 if its bigger then its 2 pallet cost

Design the workbench with bolted legs and braces. Ensure they fit inside the frame of the worktop for shipment.

There are a few carriers that take 30kg parcles (maybe some that go higher?) but if a single package is heavier than that you'll have to pallet it.

If you could supply the top in 2 halves in 2 parcles and the legs/bolts in another then ship them with carrier the cost will be getting up near pallet rate anyway plus you have the extra work packaging 3 lots.

Also a 'flat-packed' welding bench doesn't sound great in an advert.

Upside down on a pallet with something wrapped around the legs/feet to protect them then the customer can flip it when it arrives then remove the packaging & pallet when it's the right way up.

'Precision unitary construction to reduce transportation costs and volume' is the correct terminology.....
