Hi all
I wasn't quite sure were to put this thread but i figure hear was fair since its a post weld/fab process
I am looking at making some automotive uprights from S515 steel (basically T45 in sheet form) with some EN14 bosses all TIG welded etc. The finished part would be very strong and light however if i have them heat treated they could be stronger or i could make them from thinner section at the same strength thus making them lighter.
my problem is i have no experience with heat treatment and thus have no idea how much it costs etc. basically i will have 2 uprights total weight about 3-4 KG which would fit in an area just bigger than a large shoe box.
does anyone have any idea if that would be expensive to treat or a ballpark figure. in fact any information at all about heat treatment of such things would be a good starting point for me
cheers tilly
