cost of 1mm mild steel sheet 8x4 ??

about 4 years ago i bought a full sheet of 1mm mild steel sheet , that cost around £15 ,,,,, looked at some prices on line and was given £84 + .. has the cost of steel really gone up that much ? or have i just had a bad time getting prices from rip off companies ??

I had a 2x1m sheet recently of 1.2mm ....it was about £20

so far this is the cheepest i have found ,, but i still dont think its right ,,

2500mm x 1250mm £43.46 +vat and delivery

2000mm x 1000mm £27.79

try your local motorfactors. mine is only a very small outfit but they keep a few sheets in stock. its probably more like 0.9mm for car body work (20gauge?) but i assume thats what you want it for?

the online steel places arent very cheap i have found, but they are handy if you havent got a big car or work a lot.

My local sheet metal shop is less than 50% of what metals4u sell for, and that's not including postage. They'll order me any grade as well, cut it, help me load it into the van and are a nice bunch of guys. So I'd ring round your local suppliers rather than buy online.

Avoid buying online. Just use the internet to find your nearest stock holder and speak to them instead. It will be 100% every time, cheaper than online.

shop4steel.com arnt too bad, they dont list 1mm but looking at the 1.6mm compared to the 1.5mm on steel4u then that is a tenner cheaper so it might be worth ringing them and asking...
