correct diagnosis method for clutch hyd

got an issue where my clutch needs to be on the floor to get a barely acceptable gearchange ..before i pull the box i want to confirm its not the hyd /bleeding issue

if i was to take off the slave and leave it plumbed in , then G clamp on the rod so its fixed at any positon , the clutch pedal should be rock hard and no movement?

is that correct please

Personally , Id just bleed it first , for all the time and effort . Then see what you have got and decide if there is a problem , or just old fluid and better for a bleed through. If nothing else fresh fluid wont do any harm , and its cheap .

Its possible that the piston in the master cylinder may not be fully returning or the push rod is slightly worn.

no different if i pump it

both new recent parts, i suspect theres a bend arm/fork that operates the clutch , im fairly sure its bled right but wanted to as per my first post to prove its all good before removing the box ...as i hate doing gearboxes on my back

i avoid clamping flexi's these days , once upon a time it was grand , with internal release bearings its best left alone ,, a bit too enthusiastic and it can be a box out to swap the flexi , again depending on what it is.

It could also be a seal issue, fresh fluid may improve it slightly but if the seals are fried then no

Any chance of saying what it is? if it has a release bearing on a fork, it may have got a stress crack and deformed or popped off the pivot ball in the bell housing, if it's a composite slave/release bearing, that's a completely different diagnostic path.

I'd go for the arm given that 'box too - you should be able to tell by pulling the rubber out and using a cheap endoscope to look inside. Bleed issues generally give a spongy pedal and will 'pump up' albeit briefly.
