if u have power i wouldnt bother with one . ok for ocasional light use

I have a 125mm (5") Dewalt, As Brightspark says if you have power use it, the cordless do not rev so fast and batteries do not last long at all. OK for light or emergency use but thats all,

Snap, we have a Dewalt one at work for doing spot inspections on pipelines. Have to keep one battery on charge in the van because it won't be long before you need it...

I bought a DeWalt one years ago, total waste of time, I keep it in my car these days as its handy to remove the odd wheel clamp

I have a Ryobi one+ 4.5" angle grinder and for sustained work it is crap. I drained 2 batteries in less than 15 minutes of sustained work cleaning up a sheet for welding.

It is handy for little jobs where running cable out might be a problem but i wouldn't recommend one for any sustained cleaning/cutting.

I've got the same, which runs very slow - too slow to be of use for grinding. Sounds like yours is quicker, is it as fast as a mains grinder??

Handy for cutting a couple of studs off of a bit or weldmesh, thats about it.

If you still interested, look for the biggest battery ratings..... 1.4ah wont do a lot, 2.8ah will last twice as long....

We've got a DeWalt one at work, providing you accept it's limitations it's good for the odd job when I don't want to lug 110V transformer (heavy) extension leads etc across the factory.

we were thinking of getting a makita one at work for those hard to get power to locations (600ft of the deck) has anyone tried one?

My DeWalt one is VERY useful. I only ever use thin 1mm disks, and it's for use in remote places. This morning for instance I was re-setting farm gate posts, and had to remove the barbed wire wrapped round them. This afternoon I was laying 6mm csa three core SWA cable in trenches and had to make several cuts in it - neater and easier than a hack saw.

If used for the right application they are a very useful tool - I wouldn't be without mine.

I have a Hitachi 18V and have 5 3.0AH batteries It sees use nearly daily, Just had to weld a bracket on the car exhaust, Cleaned it all up with the cordless. Ive cut the heads off M16 bolts with it and use it for sharpening the lawnmowers regular.
Our boss has a bad habit of losing keys so its really handy for cutting open a padlock..........Otherwise we need to haul a generator, cables etc maybe to the job in an argocat.

I do prefer it for sharpening drill bits ratehr than the mains one just because it runs a wee bit slower.

If you have the batteries already then the tool should be fairly cheap as mine was, I see Hitachi 18V cordless grinders on ebay for a little over £50

ive used a makita one great little thing but get big battries E.g 18v 3.0ah
very handy if you accept its limitasions. bt you remember when your working in a remote place if it saves you pulling the Genny out or lugging long eletric leads its much quicker. even if its abit slower cutting.

I have to agree with awemawson on the 1mm disc's, I have a ryobi one+ and it is great but it is savage on batteries.

Doesn't seem to run as fast as mains but does spin quick enough to be useful, I have cut M10 studs off with it no problem and it came in pretty useful when cutting my old exhaust off my 4x4. But these tended to be short burst jobs, nothing sustained.

Just checked on ratings sticker No: 6,500 min-1. So no load speed is 6500 rpm which is ok for most grinding jobs just kills batteries in no time and i am using the lithium ion 2.4AH batteries not the standard ni-cad.
