Copy go-pro, any good?

My 8 year old want a go-pro for Christmas. I am not paying for a genuine ho-pro.

Loads on ebay.4k hd waterproof etc for £40-£50. Anyone have any experiance of them?

I've always found with cheaper cameras it's the lenses that suffer

I've not looked at a go pro copy but would think it's good enough for an 8 year old

i have one of the generic Chinese copies and have found it to be pretty decent, i also have a gopro hero and you cant tell much difference tbh.

I have been using one of these for a year not on Amazon any more but cheap as chips on fleabay. I figure one day might drop it from 3000ft so why spend £200 on it. I found Qumox GoPro copy on a beach in Cornwall, looks like it was lost by a surfer. Seawater had penetrated the case destroying the camera but I 'rescued' a 32GB SD card from it, I was astounded by the quality of the footage on it for a £50 device.

We bought a Vivitar one for a holiday to Mexico and it was great.
Loads of sea swimming and diving in cenotes it was about £45.

The video quality of GoPro's competitors' offerings is much better than a handful of years back, hence GoPro have to bring out a revision every year.
I have a 3 Black and I swear the 4 was announced while mine was still in the post.
I also have a separate bullet camera and recorder that was the dog's whatnots when new, IIRC it was the only system that offered full-screen TV quality at the time (2005?) and was used by the racing driver schools. When I got the GoPro I tried to Ebay the old one but nobody was biting at even fifty quid... so I kept it. The recorder can be set up to do motion-sensed recording so I've been using it to try to find out what's mooching around our outbuildings... but whatever it is must be camera-shy
One of my biking mates bought a tiny action camera for a tenner that was every bit as good as the GoPro for quality but I think the battery life was measured in minutes.

be careful doing that as a mate of mine did the same thing and the battery swelled up with the constant charging and actually resulted in bowing out the case of the camera and now he cant get the battery out to change it.
i will see if he has a picture of it i can show you.

The Gopro is the best but the cheap ones are not far behind, we did similar when our son was about 12 bought a cheap one for his BMX, it finally broke in the summer and bought a £20 from Ebay can't fault it for the money

I use one strapped to the shotgun and it seems to cope well. Has fallen off a few times and been kicked around a muddy field with no ill effects
