Over 60 years Nick..I remember being told by my father (he also was a flat roofer) when i was a kid to go around the jobs picking the bits up as it was and still is very expensive but its the longest lasting torch on felt that money can buy. Only churches and special jobs use it now and not many roofers can fit it and keep it clean looking these days as its a skill that will die soon.Back in the day we used hot bitumen to lay it before all the torch on hit the streets, thats the skilled part to lay it on slopes using hot bitumen and keep the copper side clean@roofman ,how long has that been available, interesting.
@ hitch, nothing as skilled as that ,did a trial with steel yesterday, will just squeeze sheets together with a 25 mm lap and use minimum solid copper pop rivets, perimeter will lap over ,under then crimp back to the vertical.
Slot will be cut a few mm above the top, into the trunk 10mm,for a copper flashing.
As far as i know its only copper lookalike..the torch on felts and the old pour and roll have a very thin real copper sheet stuck on to it..Incidentally i was one of the 1st approved Sarnafil installers when it arrived on the scene 40 years ago and never liked it then and still don't like single ply membranes today cos i am old fashioned@roofman
Theres a copper effect version of Cefil/Sarnafil too dont they?
