Converting a standard domestic 240v lamp to 12v for use in bathroom?

i put one in a bike light conversion a few years back for a decent light on the farm.

most bike convertions use mr16 I thought, why use gu10 because they have similar clip fittings and I had halogen mr16's in the kitchen ceiling and they where a pain all the fittings melted cables overheated etc etc bulbs would blow every week swapped them for led and they are fine.

This was on a push bike the mr16 used to vibrate loose, Gu10 never moved once. Had some laying around and tested them and found a few that worked.

MR16 are a pin fitting, GU10 are a lugged pin that twist locks into place. If you were melting the cables then you were using non aluminium backed lamps. These throw the heat forwards, they are essential in fire rated downlights.

They where what where sold 20 years ago in kits probably before it was realized the heat produced there was no warnings limiting what or where they could be fitted, it was what everybody was fitting.
Now with led's fitted they are fine as they are max 5W and instead of replacing bulbs every week now they have lasted years.

Hi guys if you want to convert to 12v dc then there is is a company that do 12v in most cap types but in led only as far as I can see. I needed some for a caravan and the owner didn't want to change the fittings so we converted the 240 to 12vdc and used these. They worked a treat but not the cheapest.
