Convert non xenon headlight to xenon

Hi all, just wondering if anyone can help. I currently have an Evo 8 with xenon headlights and I need to replace the drivers side, I can get a non xenon light at a decent price, but would it be possible to convert it to xenon with the bits off my old light which is only slightly damaged and still works. Any help / advice would be much appreciated. Richie

you pay a bit more of these guys but they do come with a 2 year warranty. I have a conversion kit of them, 7 years and no problems.

While the hids4u kits are good, I have them in two bikes and the wife's car, they'll probably be of little use to Rich he will end up with one halogen light converted to hid and one factory light which will have a different reflector and if he could change the reflector over he could use the spare factory hid that he has.

Thanks for the replies lads and the compliment SmartWerks! I`m thinking that 711jrp is right, if I converted one light it would look odd, do you lads think that the reflectors will be different in the xenon as opposed to the non xenon then?

It is on my e39 m5 Xenon and my e39 540/6 halogen and the old womans e46. Thought about a evo forum I guess a lot of folks would want to do the upgrade, I'm sure there would be some info on it.

Sorry I misread your post. Reflectors should be the same unless they use projectors? But I would assume they are the same bar re ballasts and anti glare bulbs which are what is used for non projector hid lights

and yes,mismatched lights would look wrong. I hate it when they can't even match the drls, fogs and lights

Hi, the reflector for the halogen and the HID will be different. Halogen lamps have small filaments and is positioned in the focal point of the reflector. Without the glass it would produce a pencil beam and the prisms in the glass direct the light into the pattern you see. HIDs have a larger light source and so some of it is out of that focal point, so you end up with lots of light scatter. Even fitting 100w lamps instead of 60w makes a difference. HID reflectors will be different to cater for that bigger light source.

I see, so both headlights could be the same just one has the xenon kit and the other hasn't, is that what you would be thinking too?

I wouldn't guarantee they are the same, automotive manufactures often re-tool injection mould tools for slight updates. They may of taken the chance to improve the design over the original. It's possible that the lights are even manufactured at different plants.

Yes I see what you`re saying, they are made by the same manufacturer but there could be the odd thing different, I think I`ll just have to compare my old one to the pics of the one for sale

Possibly but would you believe that a new Mitsubishi unit is in the region of 1500 quid plus VAT!? And no, that's not a typing error!!

I'm pretty sure there will be a good evolution forum who could answer, but I don't blame you if you don't use them. There are a lot of specialist evo part suppliers who would know off the top of their heads, phone around.

I have put the same question on the lancer register but I`ve had no suggestions from anyone on there, maybe I should have a look for other evo forums, to be honest though, I think this is one of the best places on the net for any sort of help like this, there always seems to be someone who has a good idea what they`re on about
