Connecting gas cylinders

Hi I'm new here I have mig welded for years and just starting on tig what I want to know can you connect both mig and tig to the same gas bottle I know tig uses argon and I believe mig can use it to
So instead of having 2 bottles on my welder trolley just have 1

You will need 2 different bottles.

Mig needs argon/CO2 mix. TIG needs pure argon.

If you use argon on MIG it would work but welds would be tall and cold.

Using one argon cylinder should be fine as long as you're only using one welder at a time, else the gas flows will be shared, probably unequally. Argon/CO2 mix should only be used on the MIG, of course. In any case, Argon/CO2 is better for MIG.

Only time you might possibly use pure argon on a Mig is when doing aluminium

Thanks for the quick answers I have a small refillable bottle for the mig for mild steel bodywork anyway so use that I use the mig for a bit of ally welding already and did not want 2 separate argon bottles and thought I could tee the gas pipe

I messed about for two years wondering why i was so crap at Tig welding.
One day somebody asked what gas i was using.
Idiot, I was using argon/co2 mix for both Mig and Tig. Thought I was being really clever plumbing both welders into the one bottle.
Complete waste of time. I got some okish welds but not really much cop.
Got some pure argon and was sorted.

if you are only using the mig for ally there is no real reason why t-ing the pipe won't work.

personally i would use airline quick connects, female in the hose from your reg and a male on the welder pipes. just plug the welder you want to use into the bottle and away you go

I thought airline quick releases relied on pressure to make a decent seal?

seen it done by several other people, and i have used them on my 3in1 tig/arc/plasma with no issues.

paint brush and some fairy liquid will soon answer the question
