I've just been down to Waitrose for a bottle of milk, the woman on the till volunteered the following information. The white cap on the top was recyclable because the previous green ones weren't.

So the green ones weren't green and the white ones were now green.

I have to say Ive just about given up being too precious about recycling it seems more and more stuff isnt recyclable, we always have a full recycling bin so its not all going in the rubbish!

I think it's less about the plastic it's made of or the colour, more about the fact it is small and round so can jam the chopping machine up. Best to crush the bottle and put the cap back on it will go then.

I saw a TV program about this once.... bin men were refusing to empty peoples recycling bins if they could see any milk bottle lids, because the council said they weren't recyclable

TV crew plus the guy from the council in charge of recycling went to visit the recycling company the council contracted in to see if there way any way to use the lids....

they met a very confused recycling factory manager, he said - the lids are the best bit of the milk bottle, they're the most valuable - council guy tried to cover his **** saying they're a different kind of plastic and need separating out

"no not at all" said the factory manager... and showed them the machine right behind him - plastic was poured into it and ground up, fed along a convey belt, as it fell off the conveyor belt it was watched by cameras which triggered tiny jets of air to blow the different kinds of plastics off at different heights and into different bins

council guy was pretty red faced

TV presenter and recycling factory manager were trying not to laugh :-o+

Me and my missus have more arguments than sense over this recycling thingy and i have now gave up trying to save arctic cockroaches To me cardboard is cardboard and plastics are plastics, but No.. there is about 5 variety's of both and that goes for glass too so i let her do it now to save the marriage

I visited mum many years ago and she was carefully cutting the plastic windows out of the letters she'd received, the nice man from the council had sent out a leaflet saying the paper could be recycled but the plastic couldn't - so had to be seperated before it went in the bin / recycle bin.

I do the same with the boxes that have a plastic "window", I tear the plastic out and put it in the plastics bin and the rest of the box goes in the cardboard bin, can you tell I'm old, retired with nothing better to do?

here,
any kinda plastic bottle cap is saved for recycle.....
apparently they make sweatshirts and fleeces with the plastic.....

that will change this year the Gov say there will be a charge on ONE use plastic bottles, that will get a refund for returning them to the supermarket.....
Right now the machines are in some already...her indoors say they make a grinding noise when used....
Think it's 10 cents a bottle return....
plus there's now a refund on some makes of glass beer bottles....

so I guess the cold Africans will have to buy their own fleeces now.....hahaha,,,

Is there another kind? We only ever have full fat. I do find it amusing that people think they are going to lose 5lb a week buy using semi skimmed in 4 cups of tea and some cereal.

Stop being amused and find the most publicised reason - whole milk has a whole lot more saturated fats than skimmed - the advice has been to avoid saturated fats as they raise cholesterol levels and the risk of heart attacks and strokes.

I come from a long line of farmers, where milk came in one variety at the table - warm, thick, with bits floating in it - and some of the bits had a suspicious dark look about them . . . in that long line were a large number of strokes . . .

Mallorca airport, rubbish bins have four compartments to aid recycling. Cleaning operative empties entire rubbish bin into one black bag so all mixed together.

I have semi-skimmed in my tea and sweetner, black coffee but I can't resist Gold top in my cereal no sugar, but the gold/yellow top goes in the recycled.
