Confused setting up the "light" sensor of a PIR lamp?

I put this light up many years ago. I am a bit confused/rusty now in respect of which way to turn the knob that determines how dark it is when the lamp comes on.

Re the symbol that refers to when the light will come on, which I think is supposed to be the moon symbol .

I think? this symbol looks like a quarter of a moon, so is sort of tapered. The lamp is coming on when it is not dark. So, do I turn the knob towards the thin end of the taper or towards the fat end? I don't want to keep getting the ladders out.

Normally the thinner end of the tapered scale for it to work when it is darker.

The fatter end of the taper is usually daylight operation.

What Dave said! takes some fettling they can be sensitive

the lux is generay marked with a sun for daylight position and moon for night time

Don’t forget, that if for any reason you cut the power to the PIR, when switching power back on do not allow any movement within the sensor range as this prevents the darkness settings being changed/altered

Meant to add, you need to wait for the light to go out,having repowered, then your existing daylight setting will allow you to change the ambient light settings

I gave up with the PIR lamps and put up 2 10 watt COB LED lamps which light up the garden nicely and don't use much power if I forget to switch them off I was always getting up to the others to alter them for sensitivity or duration although I fitted 250w halogen instead of the 500w they came with.

I like the Çob type LED bulbs. The beam is larger & brighter than the multi led type. I have the 10w screw in type. At £30 for one bulb, it seemed expensive but is still going-been using it since Nov 2014. Got it from a company called "Well Lit"

Cheap to run and so far very reliable.
I have it on a timer through the night and it goes off about 4am.

Where did you get yours from and what make is it?

There will be no PIR involved with this type of switching. It will almost certainly be a LDR (light dependent resistor) which senses the ambient light level.

As you have not quoted any post, I do not know who you are referring to.

I got them from Aldi, they were £6.99 each I don't remember the make but probably under the Powerforce banner whatever Aldi stuff is called. They've been up about 7 months and are good now the early nights are here.
