Vmplayer, mostly because they had the first really useable one and we built up archives of useable machines for testing stuff.
I didnt get on with virtual box that well when I tried it and oracle is a bit microsoft in new clothes for me since the solaris + mysql stuff.
My cpu doesn't have the extensions for kvm to play round with that anyway.
I'd recommend trying them all for yourself though and seeing what you like best. Ain't choice brilliant

ive had a few systems from M.E through to windows 7 i prefered me to xp and i had to get xp to get some files over 4gb otherwise i detested xp with a vengence saying that xp got me used to the drag and drop like me had but now i much prefer windows 7 as its better for drag and drop files into different areas of your system much better than using 2 open pages like me and xp was
windows 8 you can have but you can get rid of the touch screen part of it and drop the first page back to windows 7
windows 8 they can keep and its the same with windows 10 saying that ive only paid for me and also windows 939operating disk and that damn thing was taken over by vistas bag of crap draconian issues it has though i have to admit if i can get it for free i will do

I'm trying to make sure my kids don't get too dependent on one OS, they have access to an IPAD and the PC I built for them runs Ubuntu but they also use windows laptops too. I haven't got around to make my new laptop dual boot yet so running Win 8.1 which is a donkeys **** and wouldn't pay for a copy unless it comes with a machine. I prefer to develop code on Linux so will be either booting from a USB stick or making it dual boot Linux or stick it in a VM.
Win 7 is OK and I use it at work but as usual to try and make things easier they have made it harder.

Win7 is bareable. Win8 is hated by most as it is designed to be touch resposive, which means upgrading computer systems.
Yes! It can still be used with a mouse, but it was designed around touchscreens.
