compressor rescue

This came into my local scrappys today
Its a big un,from what i was told, weighs 375kg not ran for over 5 years then sat in a damp workshop,50CFM 3 phase






They get in stuff like this all the time,ends up in the big bin,seems a shame really
Unless someone out there is mad enough to take it on,far to massive for the likes of me,but feel free to pm me if your crazy enough

Pretty useless in a workshop environment at that pressure, perhaps it was off a fridge?

45ps is low, no wonder it's 50cfm


would make a hell of a fish tank pump :-o

No.
Simple water pressure ones use mains pressure, mainly used in domestic and small commercial units.

Bigger systems will use a diesel engine pumps and/or an electric pump to shift the volume of water needed. Including the foam added systems.

Bigger units may have a nitrogen or dry air bladder pressure tanks to give a head of pressure, then the pumps will kick in. Does away with any delay.

The pressured used is a lot considering.

Good Practise now is to have the pipes dry, on the sprinkler side of the pumps. Wet systems have a small alcohol filled bulb set up to break above 60 deg to 90 deg (spec of the systems depending). It does away with the "accidental" breakage.

Testing s sealed system is normally done with an inert gas at 5psi and you go hunting leaks with a "gas sniffer". It is Dull.

Hi, Interesting! When I was at the bus company the garage had a sprinkler system that was explained to me as being pressurised by a compressor and when a sprinkler head was set off (I think the alcohol bulb type) the system would de-pressurise. There was a big valve set up, in the room for it, that the mains water was held back by the air pressure. With the pressure collapse the valve would flip over and let the mains water through. I was on duty one night when the compressor failed to cut in to keep it pressurised and the valve flipped which set off a bell to signify this. Standing orders were I had to log it in the occurrence book and phone the garage manager and inform him ( he wasn't too impressed about being woken) and only then silence the bell. This was in the mid 70s and the system looked old then.
