Compressor Air Filter

Evening , I have a very modest compressor and recently bought a small spray gun cheap, I read on these excellent pages that I need to remove the water from the air, how can do this without building a piped system ? can I fit a cheap air filter from m/m ? if so how ? could it be screwed to the gun or some where else

cheap is cheap for a reason IMO but yeh you can I have sprayed a few car bonnets in my younger years with no filters and they turned out ok

have u got an output pressure regulator on your compressor tank -

Yes, needed if you want to spray to keep the moisture out. If the compressor has only a modest rating then buying a larger hi flow filter regulator will help minimise the losses. Remove the original regulator, if fitted, and use adaptor screw fittings as required.

Not sure .I have an out let with a pcl connector on it behind that is a gauge but its fitted inside the outer casing of the compressor

What you painting? I painted stuff with the one brightspark listed but not really good enough by itself if doing car panels.

You might be fine, best way is to give it a go but avoid wet and humid days if you can. I ran a 10m 10mm hose to the filter and then a 5m 10mm hose to the gun.

did you fix the filter to a wall or just leave loose ?

Yep, screwed it to a timber post. Best to attach it to something, even if only cable ties to a chair or something

I fasten mine with tie wraps to -an axle stand if I'm painting

I fitted two water traps one at the compressor that only partly works then another overhead were I connect in my spray gun or other air stuff.
Seems to work hood now get no wet at the gun anyhow
It's not what you might call piped up just air hose and some big cable clips on

Very noob stupid question alert!

Does a little moisture cause big issues if you only use waterbased paints?

Surely as the air atomises the mixed water base paint it won't mix in correctly so I think yes it still creates issues?

Fair enough, genuinely don't know.

Thought there might be a remote possibility of it just thinning slightly - depending on volume of course...

The only spraying I did was many years ago and any moisture caused problems.

More recently, I found out it doesn't matter much with spraying fake creosote fence stain stuff.

Just sumising myself from what little I know
