compact bender temporary mount to concrete floor.

Right , I've got my bender, made my 1" square tubing die and I'm away making tight bends... only trouble is I planned on mounting it on my bench when I need to use it.... but the wall behind the bench gets in the way for longer lengths.
So im thinking of making a pedestal and using it in the middle of my small workshop so I can work right around it..
It must be removable, and not much, if any, of a tripping hazard left behind after removal, thinking I could mount vice on a post too and a small welding table...
Any ideas for best mounting to floor without damaging dpc membrane. Concrete is around 4" deep.

Thunderbolts are the modern rawlbolt and are all I use now, you can screw them back out and put a temp plug in the holes until you need to put them back in.

Make a tubular socket to set into the concrete flush with the floor. floor could be core drilled and socket bedded in resin etc. Socket could be made with a location key that would fit into a slot in a tubular pedestal to prevent turning, Job done. and NO tripping!!!

Steve, ive used those concrete screws before, they're very good, but I'm not sure the thread in the concrete would stand up to repeated removal and refitting without wearing quickly...

Gordon was thinking square tube but round would be a great idea because, as you say, I can core drill it out.

Yeah Gordons idea is much better for regular use, I am just visualising the torque exerted if applying a fair bit of force on the bender, could it rotate a tubular socket even if it is held by resin or similar?

Perhaps some 30mm x 8mm or similar recessed into the floor would remove the risk similar to this:

Don't forget to 'project' it with some photo's of the build etc, other members in the same situation will be more than interested.

I was eyeing up some 100mm dia heavy wall stainless pipe at the scrappies last week, would have been ideal, tried to buy a couple of metres for my steel stock but he would only sell at a minimum £200 purchase, stating not worth his while writing an invoice for less...even though I offered some ready in the pocket cash..

Thunderbolts are great but they aren't intended to many-times repeated use AND you have to get the hole size right, in good concrete. I use M12 rawl fixings by the box-full. You can re-use them many times over and they come out easily. The hole needs to be about 20mm diameter and 80mm deep minimum.

Thanks Pete. Thats a very easy option..and I suppose when the rawlbolts get worn they would pull out easy enough for replacement..

You remove them by loosening 2 or 3 turns, no more, then tapping the bolt to release the taper and wiggling them out. You can re-use them many times over and they have terrific holding strength. We call them speed bolts because of how quickly you can install and remove them. I reckon I could fix and then dismount a drill rig in under 20 seconds quite easily including install and remove the bolt.

Personally I'd go with cumbriasteve's idea but using square box rather than round tube. Just core drill a hole big enough for the box, you can the use resin or concrete to fill the gaps. I've tried raw bolts for a similar thing and they constantly get clogged up and are a pain to clean out unless you leave the bolts in then I will guarantee you trip over them.

Could wind a couple of button head socket caps to keep the crap out without posing too much of a trip hazard

I would still go with the round pedestal and socket, In the case of needing some anti-rotation just drill 3X20mm equi=distant holes centred on the O/D of the core drill diameter first before core drilling.Weld 3 X 20mm pieces of solid metal bar centred in slots cut in the socket to suit the drilled holes, they would then act as anti-rotation device for both the socket and the pedestal, Easy peasy, just drop the pedestal in when needed and lift it straight out when you have finished, Still using the resin etc for bonding.No bolts or spanners required.

whats stopping u core drilling the concrete and grouting a piece of square box section steel in then drop a piece of round steel tube in as the pedestal it would only need a peg through it to stop it turning
