Commercial Electrical Work

My caretaker and I were having a chat this morning over a brew.... So there are only certain jobs you can do in your home as governed by part P. But now thinking to commercial work (say so industrial unit or commercial kitchen for example) an unregistered person working to BS7671 could complete pretty much any electrical work and issue a certificate to say it conforms to BS7671?

What are your thoughts?

I'd guess it is like an mot. It complied to BS 7671 at the time of installation/test......

This is just what we were discussing. So in theory, could I go and start wiring up and doing electrical work in the cafe up the road next week? EG?

Provided the installation complied with the latest BS7671 then you carried out the correct tests and documented the results it would then come down to proving you were electrically competent to carry out the work.

When I needed to wire up the three phase distribution and normal lighting & ring mains in my 'barn converted to a workshop' I did the whole lot myself then had it certified by a commercial electrician. Not only was it all up to regs and passed, but he was very complimentary about the installation and wanted to know which local electrician had done it

At the same time I wasn't allowed to wire up my house

That's the argument. Depends how much you fancy arguing the toss with the judge if someone gets hurt I suppose but I definitely wouldn't risk it

Qualifications are normally proof of training.
