Come Back Original Nitromors - all is forgiven

Oh for Nitromors made to the original specification that actually works

I need to strip PART of the paint on a machine tool, and re-paint it inside a 'clean' workshop without making a mess. With the original formulation Nitromors the stripping would have been easy - the new stuff is useless.
In the picture it is the horizontal surface surrounding the machine table. It's been badly brush painted - I'm glass blasting and spraying the removable panels but that surface has to be done in situ.

Any suggestions for a good Nitromors replacement would be much appreciated

starchem one is okay...or most stuff labeled aircraft stripper

probabaly have to buy it online , diy sell dare'nt sell anything "dangerous"

Caustic soda and wallpaper glue. Mix the glue first and add the Caustic slowly or you end up with snot

I used B and Q's Diall paint stripper on a cast iron fireplace and thought it was better than Nitromors. About £6, comes in a white bottle. Probably true that the heavy duty stuff is less freely available nowadays.

Buy paint stripper from a proper trade paint supplier. Its the real stuff.
I bought a couple of 5L tins off our man to get the paint off my tractor.......take the lid off and the paint just slides off on it's own.
Seriously nasty stuff - i guess the reason why its sold to the trade and not in the DIY sheds where people that need help tying their own shoe laces can buy it

the irony is that the active ingredient in old paint strippers has been removed due to health and safety issues, but you can easily buy it online.

my grandfather used to mix this up when I was younger, I thought he was mad until I saw it working.

Methylene chloride, AKA Dichloromethane (DCM) is the stuff you want but it will be a liquid and I would imagine it would destroy wallpaper paste if you tried to thicken it with that. I have heard of people thickening it with polystyrene to make a glue but I don't know if it will still work as a solvent for your paint.

Edit : I've just read that old paint strippers were DCM thickened with Methyl cellulose. Also, what I said about it destroying wallpaper paste is completely wrong because wallpaper paste, or at least just this stuff, is made entirely from methyl cellulose.
