Hi,

I have a mitutoyo combimike and it’s sticky at 10.00 mm when going in and out ().
Has anyone taken one apart, it’s probably above my pay grade to just take it to bits and I can only find how to calibrate it online.
I have found the parts diagram on the official website but the finer details don’t seem to be shown.

I have but it was a lot of years ago and I don't really remember much about it. Having said that it could not have been that complicated as I would certainly remember if it had been a real pain to do.

I definitely took out the digital section but can't recall if I dismantled it or not. I also removed and cleaned the main screw, ratchet, thimble etc

Sorry just reread and realise you were asking why and not what

Mine wasn't aligned properly and the screw was sticky and thus I pulled it apart to clean.

Cheers, this one is the I’m a skinflint I’m not buying batteries ‘manual’ version.
So possibly more tiny bits to loose.

Mine is the same style but a 25mm - 50mm if I recall, don't use it much now I have the QuantuMike. If I remember the two screws on the front allow you to lift off the cover plate and the glass. I can't recall if the digital section can be lifted out then or whether the main shaft/screw needs to be removed first.
I do remember when putting back together you can align the numbers by moving the digital section up or down before nipping up the screws as it is slotted.

I did find one u tube video on these but that just showed how to set the numbers as you have just said.

I'd try some wd40 or similar, something mild so it doesn't wreck the plastic lens. Hopefully it will softene or washed out whatever is sticking it up. I can imagine that being a pain to reassemble if you strip it down.

Hauled my Combi Mike apart to see how it was done.

First I removed the locking screw, face plate and bezel.

Next it was just a case of removing the screws holding the digits unit in place then lifting out.

I rotated the anvil so that I could remove the grub screws, that can also be done via the holes in the casing but I found it easier this way.

Gear one out

Both out.

That allowed the thimble and rod to be unscrewed from the body.

That should be enough to give everything a good clean so I didn't remove the gear wheel etc.

Rebuilding I fitted the grub screws back in and tightened them up.
I used a screwdriver with a magnet as they are tiny, I also fitted them via the holes in the casing as that allows you to guide them in easier. Be very careful to get them started on the correct thread as I think it would be quite easy to cross thread them.

Next I fitted the lock screw in place and nipped up and adjusted to 50mm and fully locked.

I could then make sure the digits were aligned in the housing and then dropped them in.

Fitted the screws and made sure the gears were meshed and then fitted the cover to make sure things were lined up, or at least very close.

Then I fitted the lens with the cover and last thing to do was to fit the lock wheel.

No excuses now for not at least taking it apart, however have to see if I can work out what’s wrong .
