Colouring stainless

how do all, I'm making a bit of a sculpture at the mo, and it calls for a 120mm ring of stainless to be heat tinted . It's 304, but by the look and feel of it, very, very cheap 304. I've had a go on a piece with the gas axe, and it's tinted a uniform straw all over, however not as "bright" as I'm used to seeing. Anyone got any ideas? I might try polishing a piece up before heating it, see it that helps

Need to get the Oxyacetylene on it to get it proper coloured. It has to be like 600 degrees to go blue

Would appear I've not been warming it enough, I'll be honest in all my time as a sheet metal worker. This is the first time I've willingly wanted the thing to have a tint!!! Usually pickling it to get rid
