Hi after a little advice if possible. I've got a fiesta xr2 that I painted about 18months ago with cellulose paint. I flat and polished most of the car about 2 weeks after painting but didn't manage to do one of the rear quarter panels and have only just now found the time to finish it off. Problem is that the quarter panel in question looks a slight shade off. I used the same batch of paint and painted it at the same time as the rest of the car. Do you guys think that the colour difference is down to it not being cut and polished at the same time and it will polish back or am I wasting my time and need to paint it again? I'll try to upload a couple of pics so you can see the difference. I used hmg paint, the colour is strato silver and I gave it about 4/5coats of the silver and I think I gave it about the same amount of coats in clear. The cars not been on the road since painting and has been sat on my drive. I'm not sure where to go from here and would really appreciate your input. Thanks in advance.

cellulose was a nightmare for temerature, Humidity etc to acheive colour matches, there were even coulour numbers, EG Ford Tawny metallic No 3. as well as 1,2, and 4, all the same colour metallic brown.
Was it painted in one go, was there sufficient paint mixed to do all the job in one go, theres and almost endless list of coulour match possibilities to consider.

Hi Stan thanks for your reply. Sorry I should have given more details. Yes it was done all in one go and from the same tin of paint. It was done in my mates garage, the weather was a lovely summers day not a cloud in the sky. I tried my best to be consistent with the distance away from the panel as I'd read somewhere (probably here) that that can have a bearing on the colour and finish of metallic paint. The only thing I didn't do was flat and polish that one panel as he needed his garage back and I've just not had time since.
Do you think that the sun has maybe affected the clear in some way?
I still have a litre of paint from the same batch so I could repaint it if needed, or do you think there's a chance that it will match better once polished?
It doesn't show as much on the pictures but it's as though there's a hint of gold in that one panel. I'll try to take a better picture so you can see what I mean. It's a shame really because it's the first car I've ever painted and the rest of it looks pretty good for a first attempt.

Hi again, well Steveo you were right, I tried to flat and polish it but it didn't make any difference at all except it had a nice shine to it. I've repainted it today and the colour match is spot on. In answer to your question Nick yes it was all done with the same primer and paint. Out of curiosity does anyone have any ideas why it happened? Is it possible that the sun might have caused it? I can't get my head around it.

Thought I might be clutching at straws but it was worth asking anyway. Thanks for the replies guys and thanks for that little tip at the end Norsa, I didn't know that the direction that you spray in could have an affect, I'll keep that in mind next time, great tip thanks.
