College or or not to college first.

Hi guys, long story short after years of wanting to weld I decided to sign up to a college course to learn. A mix up of dates unfortunately means I won't be able to do the course this side of the summer as one I am currently set to start will be last. Will be cancelling course in next couple of days. What would people here advise college before I buy a welder or buy a welder and learn from there? I was hoping with this weld course to learn then add a couple of supports under a small trailer


Edit first response is buy a welder. Stick/ARC or MIG? Clarkes look good with mig It would have to be gasless

buy a welder and get practicing on scrap metal 95 percent of folk are self taught

Or ask around and see if there is anyone, a work mate or neighbour, who can weld and could give you a demo. Do as Brightspark says and get a cheap dc welder or mig welder, scrounge a few bits of mild steel (not galvanised ), watch a few youtube videos and have a bash. Show your results here and people will tell you where you are going wrong.
