Well actually I was trying to join some thin stainless tube.
Been welding for some years with basic arc, even put a new bottom on a 38 ft boat, and it still floats 12 years later, so it couldn't have been that bad.
I also have an oxy acetyline set, cos my neighbour at the time was a retired welding development engineer for BAC. and he claimed it was the most universal system you could get (at that time). Unfortunately he is no longer with us.
Anyway, cost of bottles is now getting to me (dear old BOC), so I bought a SIP 130 gas/gasless kit. Thought I might need to use it outside so the gasless bit could be useful. The information on this site is second to none.
Anyway, back to the collander - I mean the stainless flue pipe.
My welder goes down to 25 amps, but I can only get 0.8mm stainless wire, and using argon, have far too much heat. Practicing on scrap, but it is only about 0.8mm thick. Would thinner wire (if it were available) help?
I am probably trying to achieve the impossible, and have just spoken to a neighbour who knows an expert with a TIG, so I think I will ask a favour of him.
