Cold Cut saw

Hi All

I need a new cold cut saw / chop saw for the workshop, I want to be able to cut 120mm rounds, and do 45 degree either way, I have looked at the baileigh ones but wondered if any can suggest any other makes to look at.

Having used cold saws for many years i'd say its pushing it to the limit to do 120mm round and at 45deg is nigh on impossible, thats about a 180mm long cut,
i'd be looking at cutting stuff that big on a bandsaw.

i did some 100mm solid on my bandsaw. it took about 45mins to cut
i just left it to carry on while i did other things.

All of the stockholders i use only use coldsaws for cutting small stuff,
all of the multiple cutting of blanks on larger round sections for customers is done on bandsaws,
set it up and let it roll...

I have a band saw for doing 250mm sections but it is seriously slow! We are doing a lot more staircases etc and 50mm / 100mm box up to 4k max for really good one but hopefully cheaper. I think it will make cutting about 4 times as quick we are loosing so much time waiting for the bandsaw.

May be a daft suggestion Mike but could you put a second bandsaw in? That way you immediately can parallel run jobs, effectively halving the time to wait overall.

I could but if a chop saw will do the same job in a quarter of the time I may as well run one of those along side the bandsaw.

Agreed on the 50 and 100mm box it'll be at least twice as quick/maybe even more,
its just the 45 deg cut on 120mm round that i'd feel is oversize for a cutoff saw as you'll need a 400mm min diameter blade.

Yep, having had a good look around I have gone for the MACC new 350. which will do 100mm round or box anything bigger is an abrasive. Hopefully this will do the trick.
