The thing that's next to the lantern toolpost looks to be an adapter plate for between a chuck and a backplate.

That's what I thought, just not sure how or why. I guess it had a specific purpose and it may be useless for anything else.
It has some numbers on it. I'll try and look them up when it's out the cleaning tank.

They are in the bottom of the tank cleaning. Dumped them straight in after I took the pics.
I'll pull them out tomorrow, measure, and look for numbers.
Did you get to the bottom of what they fitted as I am after one for my Colchester master 2500.

They are 6.5" center height, from a roundhead of some description.
Seems both students and masters could be had with 6.5" center height and t slot carriages so could be either.
I can make them work on my fortis lathe though, although I may swap the travelling steady for a non t slot version.

Fixed steadies people seem.to want £2-300 for.
I'd assumed they were just chancers bit they all seem to be asking that much. I've seen them go for alot less, they don't seem to make that much when auctioned.
It might be worth seeing if roundhead ones will fit your lathe as the squarer steadies for the later lathes are even more money!
Yep even if you can find one prices see insane.
I just purchased a ring of steel to build one. Printed an inner ring to fit the item I wish to turn, as it was already in the lathe.
That way I can mock it up after I V the base and tack it up for complete welding later.
