Looking for some advice and pics plus videos on adjusting the apron on the above lathe.

I have a manual but can't find much in there about it.

It's got play in it. When I put a good cut on it the tool dips below center and digs in.

So I put a long square bar in instead of the tool holder and I can lift the saddle up.

I doubt that you problem is due to the apron, given the location of the tool, i.e. it's approximately in the centres so does not have the leverage to lift it. I would say that the slop is probably in the compound slide, try rotating it to the 90 degree position and try again. If it's better there then that's the problem. I take it the tool post is solid?

Yes mate its centered. I have got to make time to clean everything up and put a DTI on it.

It is weird as it cuts ok and occasionally the tool dips (as it digs in ) usually on a heavy cut.

Yes mate tool post is solid. I have also locked up the compound slide.

I will take a video when I get a bit of spare time but I am shopping and packing today and on a road trip tommorow..

Hello UKracer,

How much overhang have you on the tool; I'm still of the opinion that the compound is moving, even if locked down. (Assuming the compound is securely clamped to the cross travel?) I think if you have a mate to watch the lathe for movement when you do some turning, it's almost impossible I'd say for you to withdraw the tool if it's digging in and look carefully for movement at the same time?

Daft question maybe, but does it do this with a variety of cutting tools, or just the one?
