Coating Aluminium

Now I know Aluminium is good at corrosion resistance, however I've coated an aluminium water container with Zinc Spray to tidy it up. Will this have a detrimental effect on the Ali?

You have water/Ali/Zinc the water does not touch the Ali and Zinc at the same time so you can't get cathodic reaction from it, but will the Zinc coat damage the Aluminium?

I was going to do the same to my pipework but may not if it will damage it.

If this would be the case, what can I coat Ali in to tidy it up a bit? It's all a bit rough due to being moved about and welded. I can't be bothered to polish it up, I'd rather coat it.

The zinc spray may not be suitable for use in potable water tanks. It probably has poor adhesion too, it is bad enough on steel let alone aluminium.

There are some epoxy primers suitable for potable water but off hand can't remember which.

Cheers, glad I only done it to this as I'm going to replace it next week, just giving it a try, it looks goof for now, may see how long it lasts and get back with my results.
