Co2 Question

Ive found somebody who can/will refill bottles with CO2 ,,
They will have to be in good condition AND in DATE/TEST,,
The Question i want to ask is if you get a propane/buetane bottle that is in date/test re paint it the right colour would it be adequite For the ( BAR pressure ) of the bottle???

No, they are only rated for half the working temperature.

Actually it's worse than that, liquid butane bottles are tested to about 30 bar, liquid CO2 bottles operate at 50/60 bar.

Get yourself a proper bottle from a legitimate supplier who offers an exchange scheme.

Yes will take his advice ,,,ALL i was trying to do is keep the bottle rentle down to zero if you havee read any of my other post you will see i do a bit of every thing BUT ime learning to weld my self ( at collage )to get my papers for safty?
Its my mates that are welders with all there paperwork for time served i just tack the work and wait for them to do the welding!!

You don't usually need to rent Co2 bottles. Get them from a pub co2 gas supplier and you will pay around 14-19 quid for a bottle no rental. A 14lbs bottle will last a little while. Would suggest you get 2 as they can just run out in the middle of a job like my last one did.

What sort of welding time can be expected from a 14 lbs bottle of CO2? Does this change if you use 0.6mm or 0.8mm? Maybe it is easier to calculate how many litres in 14lbs of CO2!

24lbs has about 3219L of gas:

14 lbs * 1L/2.2lbs = 6.364kilo or 6364 grams.

1 L of CO2 gas (1 atm) weighs 1.977g

6364g / 1.977g/l = 3219 L of gas.

At 10 LPM, that is 321 minutes, or 5 hours

Ive heard that its illegal to have a pub co2 bottle and if you did have one its near impossible to get a refill but going by what ive read on this forum thats a load of crap. Can someone advise as I was gona try and get pub bottle.

There are pub bottles and pub bottles. Sometimes BOC welding gas bottles the same size as a bottle supplied to a pub are referred to as "pub bottles" when strictly speaking they're not.

You'll probably find it costs pretty much the same to go to a proper BOC dealer and get a "pub bottle" legitimately as does to get a dodgy one from a pub. Also you'll have the peace of mind of having the paperwork and the bottle will be in test and filled with the correct gas.
