Co2...How much pressure

I bought a 5lb Co2 bottle (new) a while back from a Keg Beer accessories supplier. While I LOVE beer, the intended use for this bottle is MIG welding. When I hooked up the gauge, the tank pressure showed around 2000lbs. I used it for a couple months, and ran out a week ago. I took the bottle to have it filled and when it came back, it only registers about 800lbs. I called the 're-filler' and asked if this was correct, and he said it was. I then called the place I bought it from, and didn't really get an answer the reconciled the two. Can someone explain how this works?

In round figures CO2 liquifies at 50 bar = 50*15 = 750 psi. If it was up to 2000 psi then it didn't have pure liquid CO2 in it, more likely some sort of pub mix.

Once CO2 is liquid it stays at that pressure, the pressure in the bottle only drops once the liquid is used up.

I bet it had nitrogen/CO2 mix.

Have you tried the new gas? It should work better than the old one
