ive recently got my self a mig and ive read about the gases of co2 and argon and mixes and that you can use a pub co2 bottle well ive a friend in a pub and he managed to make a empty co2 bottle go missing for me but i cant find nowere that will fill it up for me

i called up boc today and the man said that thers no point in using just co2 as it will be welding to hot and i wont be able to get the right amperidge or something i stop listening when he told me he wouldnt fill it up for me , so i am woundering is it better for me to just buy some gas mix ???

CO2 will work. It is hotter than Ar/CO2 mix, but the current will be a bit less.

See if a fire extinguisher place will fill it.

If, not, why won't your friend swap you a full one for a few £ ?

why didnt your mate order you a full bottle and you just pay for it only around 13 quid

Harvey you could find out from your mate what the name is of the company that delivers to his pub and go to the source. It will be a cellar supplies company. You could then go to them with the bottle and ask for a REFILL (not a fill)(like a returning customer) Say you can't remember when you got it last FILLED, bou't a year ago... They will recognise it as one of there bottles so no probs accepting it. Should cost about £15-20. Keep any recipt they give you, next time you go in there have that in your pocket to wave if needed

its a boc bottle , and it is not his pub it a wetherspoons and he seems to think it may be on stock sort of thing

what he should have done is ask the manager how much it would cost to order an extra bottle, if he was freindly wth him of course

Check your local Calor Gas supplier, mine actually stocked Co2 at £13 a year to rent and £12 a refill..he even had the full range of other welding gases at really good prices, the company is called Inngas...not sure if its just local or nationwide franchise.

CO2/Argon mix is preferable but I use solely CO2 and it's fine for occasional use

My company do a lot of work for a family that owns several pubs and restaurants so they kindly offered to keep me supplied with CO2 free of charge, but when I asked him how much it was costing him he said "Around £10 per refill" so any approachable pub landlord should be able to sort it out for you for not a lot of money.
